GOALS

XIWT aims to
  • foster the understanding, development and application of technologies that cross industry boundaries
  • facilitate the conversion of the NII vision into real-world implementations
  • facilitate a dialogue among representatives of stakeholders in the private and public sectors
XIWT will
  • develop common technological and architectural approaches that bridge industry gaps and match the evolution of information technologies while providing for openness, heterogeneity, interoperability, scalability and ease of use
  • plan information infrastructure pilot projects that leverage industry capabilities and state-of-the-art research
  • foster ongoing experimentation and development of technology and cross-industry applications and skills
  • promote cross-fertilization of technology and stimulate advanced infrastructure development
  • create and sustain an open, cooperative networked environment for the members to exchange technical ideas, interests, and information
  • maintain an open forum for dialogue among representatives of key U.S. stakeholders in the private and public sectors
  • organize NII technology forums to discuss and disseminate XIWT results and sponsor periodic publications of White Papers on specific technology issues
  • build a common knowledge base for members on relevant topics
XIWT Members
  • participate actively in working teams, Plenary meetings, seminars and by other means to identify issues and solutions and work towards consensus on recommendations

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Primary Members may participate in all XIWT bodies, topical Working Teams and activities, and be members of the XIWT Executive Committee, which sets policy and operating procedures, approves public positions and papers, and membership applications. Primary Members may vote on all matters requiring voting approval.

Associate Members are non-voting, participate on working groups at the invitation of a Working Team, and may attend other activities, such as Plenary meetings, held at least four times annually which review Working Team activities and host invited speakers from industry and government.

Prospective members may attend one Plenary Session by prior arrangement with the XIWT.

All members have access to White Papers and to other XIWT information services. All are expected to contribute actively to the pursuit of XIWT goals and interests and to participate in the review of public documents and other XIWT actions.
