IPv6 2000
Internet Protocol version 6

Hosted by:
The IPv6 Forum and the Cross-Industry Working Team (XIWT)

October 19-20, 2000
Washington, DC

Ronald Reagan Building, International Trade Center
ATRIUM BALLROOM

NETWORK AND WIRELESS SERVICES at IPv6 2000

The Internet Protocol defines the Internet, and version 6 defines how the Internet will evolve.

IPv6 provides the platform required for the flood of wireless handsets, net appliances, always-on and interactive devices -- and for stimulating radically new Internet business propositions.

This is achieved with its enormous increases in addresses, its mobile user support and automated management, its mandatory security, and its optional service levels.

Those looking ahead see the present version, IPv4, pushed to its limit. That's why Internet equipment suppliers are now rolling out this new future-oriented Internet Protocol version to co-exist with and eventually supercede it.

The gradual transition to IPv6 will save money. Networks will become cheaper to run because of improvements in operational efficiencies and in automated management features, and users will enjoy increased economic choices.

IPv6 2000 will aid in realizing the enormous potential of IPv6 by stimulating the collaborative insight and action that is the keystone of the Internet.

NETWORK SERVICES AND WIRELESS LAN INFORMATION

    Network Services:
We are providing a Laptop Bar in the area outside the Atrium Ballroom, with 10/100BT and power. Additionally, there will be 802.11B service in the Atrium Ballroom. Both IPv4 and IPv6 will be supported, DHCP for assigning the IPv4 addresses and ND for distributing the IPv6 prefix. If you need a static IP address that can also be provided.

    Wireless Lan Information:
3Com will be providing an 802.11B wireless LAN for the IPv6 2000 Summit. There will also be some 3Com AirConnect PC cards available to loan for use during the conference (we really want them back before you go home). If you have a card, bring it with you - there is broad interoperability with these products these days. Drivers for 3Com cards can be downloaded via the web
http://support.3com.com/software/wirelesssw.htm - it will be much easier to try it out if your laptop already has the driver on it, but we will have a CD available. Linux does not yet have a driver.
